Stuck at 30fps? No, this isn't a performance issue. Game happily sits at 55 - 60 fps during the benchmark and will go up to 60fps at seemingly random times (often in missions) before dropping back down to 30. I'm using a controller for moving around, and I've heard that using a controller used to crash the game, or does the controller itself

Solution #2 : Disable Antivirus or Add To Whitelist / Exemption List Antivirus software are apparently causing RDR2 to crash, especially during the intro / shotgun scene. Either disable your antivirus software temporarily (not really advisable), or add Red Dead Redemption 2 to its whitelist or exemption list. Solution #3 : Update The Rockstar Games Launcher Rockstar just issued a update to fix the many issues this buggy launcher was causing : Close any running Rockstar game Close the Rockstar Games Launcher Restart the Rockstar Games Launcher, and let it update to or newer Solution #4 : Logging Out And Back Into Rockstar Games Launcher The Activation Required error can apparently be solved by simply logging out of the Rockstar Games Launcher, and logging back in again. Solution #5 : Clear The Rockstar Games Launch Profile Cache But in certain situations, if logging out and back in again fails, you will need to clear your local profile cache : In Rockstar Games Launcher, go to Settings > Account Information Select Delete Local Profile (This will only delete the local cache. It will not delete your Social Club account or saved games) Select Confirm Sign into the Rockstar Games Launcher again Solution #6 : Reduce Number Of CPU Cores Red Dead Redemption 2 is apparently hogging the CPU, causing stuttering or freezing. A temporary workaround has been suggested â reduce the number of CPU cores it can use : Right click on in Windows Explorer In the drop-down list, select Set Affinity You will a list of available CPU cores. Uncheck one or two cores. Solution #7 : Switch To DirectX 12 Generally, Vulkan will offer significantly better performance than DirectX 12. Where possible, you should enable Vulkan, instead of DirectX 12. However, if you notice sudden drops in frame rate, try switching from Vulkan to DirectX 12. This will likely get fixed in a future graphics card driver. Solution #8 : Lower The Graphics Settings Rockstar appears to be overly optimistic about the system requirements of RDR2. NVIDIA ran their own benchmarks, and recommended these cards for 60 fps gaming instead : 4K (Medium High) : GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or better 1440p (Ultra) : GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or better 1440p (High) : GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER or GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 1080p (Ultra) : GeForce RTX 2070 / GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER or better 1080p (High) : GeForce RTX 2060 or better So, if you are getting low frame rates, reduce the graphics settings. In particular, volumetric graphics and water quality settings. Recommended Reading Red Dead Redemption 2 PC : What You Need To Know! Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition : Get It Now! Gaming A guide for how to fix the exited unexpectedly issue with Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC following Rockstar Gamesâ latest update. Red Dead Redemption 2 has just launched on PC and itâs been a broken mess according to various reports about numerous bugs and issues. One of these many issues saw players tearing their hair out over a âexited unexpectedlyâ dilemma, of which Rockstar Games has attempted to fix through an update to their launcher. The wild west sequel is Rockstar Gamesâ magnum opus and its launch on PC was heavily anticipated thanks to its visual improvements, bonus content and the sheer fact itâs one of the best games of the decade. PS4 and Xbox One loyalists have rued its existence for containing an exclusive photo mode, but PC players couldnât have cared less as theyâve had to wait a year to finally ride with Dutch Van Der Lindeâs posse. Unfortunately, much like many PC games at launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 was unplayable thanks to an âexited unexpectedlyâ issue. While that was undoubtedly annoying, Rockstar Games has delivered an update to their launcher that hopefully fixes the dilemma. HOW TO FIX: Red Dead Redemption 2 PC freezing and stuttering! However, away from yesterdayâs advice, Rockstar have released an update to their launcher that is intended to resolve the following: Fixed an issue that resulted in the Rockstar Games Launcher returning the error âThe Rockstar Games Launcher failed to initializeâ on startup Fixed an issue that resulted in the Rockstar Games Launcher preload decryption getting stuck and not completing Fixed an issue that resulted in the Rockstar Games Launcher returning the error âThe Rockstar Games Launcher exited unexpectedlyâ when launching Red Dead Redemption 2 Fixed an issue that resulted in crashes when starting the Rockstar Games Launcher from the Epic Games Launcher Fixed an issue that resulted in the Rockstar Games Launcher returning the error âUnable to launch game, please verify your game dataâ when launching Red Dead Redemption 2 from the Epic Games Launcher In order to resolve these issues, you must of course update the launcher. Simply close Red Dead Redemption 2 or any other Rockstar Game youâre playing, fully exit the launcher and then the update should automatically be applied once you re-open it. How to fix Red Dead Redemption 2 exited unexpectedly on PC If the âexited unexpectedlyâ dilemma continues to ruin your Red Dead Redemption 2 experience on PC, then you can try the following step-by-step recommended fix via Rockstar Games themselves. Open the Rockstar Games Launcher Select Settings Select Red Dead Redemption 2 under My installed games Select Open under View Installation Folder Right-Click on RDR2 Select Properties Under the Compatibility Tab Select Run this Program as an Administrator and Disable Full Screen Optimization Click OK Return to the Games Menu in the Rockstar Games Launcher Launch the game Provided that still doesnât work, various cowboys from the Red Dead Redemption 2 community have suggested adding the gameâs executable to your antivirus whitelist or disabling antivirus completely â just make sure you re-enable it once youâre doing heehawing and shooting. Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in October 2018 by Rockstar Games. Since then many bugs and errors have been patched through a series of updates and fixes. Many of the players were happy with the game so far. Then Nvidia announced DLSS support for the game that helped to improve the performance. However, the latest update of DLSS seems to be causing the Red Dead Redemption 2 Out Of Memory error. Gamers were thrilled that it would be possible to run Red Dead Redemption 2 on their Mid-tier gaming setups at an improved FPS when Nvidia enabled DLSS support for the game. This uppdate was highly anticipated too. And it was going great too with an improvement of 45% in FPS. But with the improvement, came the Out Of Memory error too. So we have prepared a guide for you to fix this problem. Guide to Fix Red Dead Redemption 2 Out Of Memory Error Gamers were complaining that the game would run fine on the benchmark when DLSS was turned off. However as soon as they turned DLSS on and ran the benchmark, they would get the Out Of Memory error and would be told to restart the PC. Even running the game in Safe mode would not help. If you are one of these gamers, then follow the steps listed below. Turn off all your overlays. This includes Discord, MSI Afterburner, etc. The game really seems to hate launching the game directly from the Rockstar Games Launcher instead of the Steam to your motherboard BIOS settings and disable the Resizeable Bar option. You will have to check the manual of your specific motherboard model to find this option in the BIOS. All Done You can now turn on DLSS without having to experience the Red Dead Redemption 2 Out Of Memory Error again and enjoy the game with the improved performance and FPS on your system. Let us know in the comments below if this guide helped you. Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version is facing errors and issues like game exited unexpectedly, 100% CPU usage, low GPU utilization, crash at launch and more. Here I have compiled a list of RDR2 errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their possible fixes and workarounds. RDR2 is one of the most immersive games on this generation. The game has finally landed on PC and there is so much to detail in Red Dead Redemption 2 that it can even overwhelm CPUs and cause 100% CPU usage. The gameâs 2 PC version is facing a lot of problems like game crashing at launch, black screen, low FPS, stuttering, 100% CPU usage and more. The game is also very demanding as even an RTX 2080 Ti canât run it at Ultra. The following are the errors and issues that players are experiencing along with their fixes and workarounds. Game Exited Unexpectedly Fix This is a Red Redemption 2 PC error that a lot of players are experiencing. There are multiple reasons for this error and the following solutions might help with Red Dead Redemption 2 game exited unexpectedly error. One reason for the is RDR2 error to pop up is because of an overclocked GPU or factory-overclocked GPU. Revert the clock speed of your GPU to its default value and the issue should be resolved. If the GPU isnât overclocked then your GPU might not be able to handle the game and is causing the âGame Exited Unexpectedlyâ error. This can fixed by lowering the GPU clock speed by 100 MHz. Ideally, you wonât have to lower it more than 200 MHz. In case you donât want to mess with the GPUâs clock speed, you can either lower the graphics quality or lock the game at relativley lower FPS and I would recommend to lock the at 30 FPS for a consistent experience. To lock the game at 30 FPS, open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the drop-down list and enable Max FPS limit and set the a value for it. Set 30 if you want the game to be locked at 30 FPS. Locking the game at 30 FPS reduces the load on both GPU and the CPU and youâll probabaly wonât see the âgame exited unexpectedlyâ error again. Game Not Launching, Rockstar Launcher Not Recognizing The Game Fix Players are facing the issues where the game either doesnât even launch and if it does then Rockstar Launcher doesnât show Red Dead Redemption 2 as bought and asks players to buy the game. Here are the fixes for it. Right-click on the gameâs exe > Properties > Compatibility tab. Check âRun this program as an administratorâ and check âdisable fullscreen optimizationâ. Do this for both âPlayRDR2â and â â in the install folder. However, for many, the Rockstar Launcher still asks them to buy the game as it fails to recognize RDR2 as bough on Steam. To fix this, open both Steam and Rockstar Launcher. Using task manager kill the Rockstar launcher and everything rockstar related. Log out of Steam then log back in and remove any gamepad, joystick, steering wheel, or any USB peripheral other than mouse and keyboard. Start the game and itâll be running fine and then you can re-attack your peripherals. Stuttering, Low FPS Fix Performance is a major issue with the Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version. The game is facing either low GPU usage, low FPS, stuttering and more. Here are a few fixes that might improve the gameâs performance and eliminate stuttering. Letâs start with the basics, install the latest GPU drivers as they bring game-specific optimizations. Open the task manager and check if there is any process that is using too much of your CPU or HDD. For Nvidia GPU users facing low FPS, chance your API from Vulkan to DirectX 12 which improves performance. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings. Select the game from the list and set âPower Management Modeâ to âPrefer Maximum Performanceâ and set âTexture Filtering- Qualityâ to âHigh Performanceâ. This will improve Red Dead Redemption 2 PC performance and possibly will eliminate stuttering. Steam Overlay Fix Update your Steam client and the issue will be resolved. If the overlay doesnât work properly for you then run the game as administrator and disable fullscreen optimization. See under Game Not Launching fix to see how to do it. Rockstar Games Launcher Exited Unexpectedly Fix This is an error that a lot of PC players are experiencing with RDR2. This error has multiple reasons depending on the system. Follow this linkthis linkthis link and there are fixes for all the different reasons because of which this error is troubling you. 30% CPU Usage Fix Players are complaining that the game only uses around 30% of the CPU which results in only 20% utilization of the GPU and low FPS. There is one possible fix for this issue. Start the game and then open the task manager > details tab. Right-click on the Red Dead Redemption 2 exe and select set affinity. Make sure all cores are selected. If all of the cores arenât selected then this was the problem, just select all Cores and apply. This will resolve the low CPU usage issue. High CPU Usage, 100% CPU Usage Fix High CPU usage has been an issue with modern PC games as of late and especially with Ubisoft games. Red Dead Redemption 2 PC players are also experiencing 100% CPU usage. As I mentioned above, the game is one of the most immersive games of this generation. There are so many smaller details in the game and AI routines that they can overwhelm CPUs, especially, older CPUs Here is how to fix the 100% CPU usage fix in Red Dead Redemption 2. This can be fixed by locking the game at 30 FPS which will take the load off both CPU and the GPU. Check under âGame Exited Unexpectedly fixâ to see how to lock the game at 30 FPS. If you donât want to lock the FPS, then you can limit the CPU cores the game can use. Start the game, open task manager > Details tab. Find Red Dead Redemption 2âs process and right-click on it > set affinity. A new window will open with CPU cores listed down. If you have a six core CPU, then irocemmdn that you only use 3-4 cores and uncheck the rest. If you have a 4 Core CPU, then uncheck the last one and only let the game use 3 cores. Press Ok and the CPU use will drop. Another way to fix the Red Dead Redemption 2 PC 100% CPU usage it by switching to DX 12. However, it might now work for everyone. Crash At Launch Fix Players are reporting that Red Dead Redemption 2 is crashing as soon as they try to launch the game. Here are a few fixes that might help you. Your anti-virus software or Windows Defender might be detecting the gameâs exe as a virus. Either disable your anti-virus software or make an exception for the exe. Another reason for RDR2 crashing at launch is third-party monitoring software like MSI Afterburner and GeForce Experience. Disable them to resolve the problem. Your game not having administrative rights is another reason why the game crashes at launch. Right-click on gameâs exe > properties > compatibility. Check ârun the game as administratorâ. Start the game and it should be running fine. Black Screen Fix Players are reporting black screen as they launch Red Dead Redemption 2 but they can head audio in the background. to fix this, start the game and when the black screen appears, press âAlt + Enterâ. The game will go into the windowed mode and will start to display. Go to video settings and select the resolution that is native to your display and youâll be able to play in fullscreen. That is all for our Red Dead Redemption 2 fixes for errors like game exited unexpectedly, low FPS, 100% CPU usage and more.
